Know the Score 'Informing Parents' Campaign

10 March 2008

Know the Score has launched its 'Informing Parents' campaign, which aims to provide parents with information, advice and resources on drugs to help them become properly equipped to approach their children about this issue.

The campaign aims to empower and advise parents to help them feel comfortable and confident about talking to their children about drugs. Know the Score also aims to encourage parents to initiate preventative discussions with their children rather than waiting until things are at crisis point and they suspect their child is involved in drug taking.

Drugs can affect any family, of any class, in any area; and all parents can help protect their children. Communication is key and talking openly to young people about drugs is an important part of educating them on the dangers and helping them make more informed decisions.

Eleanor Robertson, Chair of the Scottish Network for Families Affected by Drugs (SNFAD) said, "I welcome the distribution of the booklet 'Drugs - what every parent should know' to parents of under 16-years-olds, grandparents and other family members across Scotland. The devastation of drug-use affects the whole family as well as users. Families have a key role in helping young people avoid drug-use while supporting those who do."

Know the Score can help parents find out the facts, offering advice and guidance on how to start those difficult conversations.
