Alcohol & Drug Action Teams

Alcohol & Drug Action Teams (ADATs) co-ordinate local efforts to tackle drug misuse at both strategic and operational level. They consist of senior officials from local statutory and non-statutory bodies, including the core partners of health, social work, police, prisons, education and the voluntary sector.

There are 22 ADATs in Scotland, based on either NHS Board or local authority boundaries. The majority also include alcohol and volatile substances within their remit and some include smoking.

The Scottish Government works in partnership with ADATs and local agencies to ensure the planning and delivery of services to meet local needs and priorities. ADATs report progress in meeting key national priorities to the Scottish Government on an annual basis.
